Thirty years ago, Mika Häkkinen survived a near-fatal crash at the 1995 Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide, thanks to the quick actions of marshals and the medical team.

It will be Häkkinen’s first trip back to Adelaide since March 1997. To thank the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the medical team that saved his life following his accident in November 1995, Häkkinen made a donation to help build a helipad at the hospital and attended its official opening in March 1997.
“Returning to Adelaide after so many years promises to be a special experience,” Häkkinen says of his upcoming appearance at the 2026 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival.
“The city holds many emotions and memories for me, not least the incredible support I received after my crash in 1995. I’m really looking forward to coming back.”
