Long-time Formula 1 teammates Mika Häkkinen and David Coulthard will make their Adelaide Motorsport Festival debuts in 2026, reuniting 30 years on from their first season as teammates for on-track demonstrations and off-track appearances at the event on February 28 and March 1.

The 2026 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival appearance marks the first time the star duo has visited Adelaide since their Formula 1 driving careers. They are amongst the longest serving teammate pairings in Formula 1 history, racing at McLaren alongside each other for six seasons between 1996 and 2001.

Häkkinen won the drivers’ world championship in 1998 and 1999 with McLaren, with a total of 20 grand prix wins across his 11 seasons in Formula 1. He raced at the Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide between 1991 and 1995, surviving a huge qualifying crash at the latter. Häkkinen spent several weeks recovering from the crash in the Royal Adelaide Hospital, returning in 1997 for a ceremony to open the hospital’s new helipad.

Coulthard won 13 grand prix in a career that spanned 15 seasons in Formula 1. He raced at the Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide in 1995, leading the race before crashing. He is still active in Formula 1 as an ambassador for his last team, Red Bull Racing, and as a commentator for Channel 4’s coverage in the United Kingdom.

Häkkinen and Coulthard will be taking part in on-track demonstrations in cars that will be revealed at later date, in addition to off-track appearances such as in the Adelaide Marriott Grand Marquee across both days of the event.

Häkkinen says: “Returning to Adelaide after so many years promises to be a special experience. I am excited to be part of the 2026 Adelaide Motorsport Festival, alongside David. The city holds a range of emotions and memories for me, personally, not least the support I received following my crash in 1995. I’m looking forward to coming back.”

Coulthard says: “Adelaide was my first-ever Australian Grand Prix in F1 back in 1995, so it will be a trip down memory lane at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival. It’s going to be a lot of fun to be part of such a celebratory event. Adelaide played an important role in the history of Formula 1, so it’s a fitting venue to share our passion for motorsport with fans.”
