Iconic Ferrari Formula 1 pair back on the streets of Adelaide

A pair of Ferrari 156/85s from the 1985 Formula 1 season – the first that featured the Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide – will both be appearing at the 2026 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival, with Stefan Johansson getting back behind the wheel of his Ferrari at the event.

The 1985 Ferraris, from the glorious Adelaide Grand Prix turbo era, will be on track with other Formula 1 cars on the Victoria Park section of the Adelaide Street Circuit on February 28 and March 1, 2025.

The pair were two of the five cars raced by Scuderia Ferrari in the 1985 Formula 1 season. The #27 (chassis 079) was raced by Michele Alboreto, who scored podium finishes with the chassis in Brazil and Portugal on his way to second in the drivers’ championship. The #28 (chassis 082) was raced by Johansson, with Ferrari finishing in second place in the constructors’ championship that season.

Johansson raced in the first Adelaide Grand Prix in 1985 for Scuderia Ferrari, finishing on the podium for the Italian team in Adelaide a year later in 1986. After five grand prix starts in Adelaide, Johansson has been a regular attendee at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival over the years and an ambassador for the event.

Designed by renowned Formula 1 engineers Mauro Forghieri and Harvey Postlethwaite, the Ferrari 156/85s are powered by V6 turbo engines producing around 750BHP at 11,000RPM. 

The 2026 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival will once again feature various categories, ranging from Formula 1 cars, V8 Supercars, sportscars, touring cars, motorbikes, drift cars and more with the action non-stop without a break in track activity at any stage of the day. Off track there will be car displays, kids' zones, bars and food trucks, exhibitors and traders, activations and more, in a picnic in the park setting.
