Guenther Steiner on F1, team ownership and the Adelaide Motorsport Festival

Former Formula 1 team boss turned commentator Guenther Steiner has been an Adelaide Motorsport Festival regular over recent years.

Steiner, who hails from Italy but is based in America, was the team principal of the Haas Formula 1 team from 2016 to 2024, the managing director of Jaguar Racing from 2001 to 2003 and technical operations director of Red Bull Racing, following on from spells with Mazda and Ford in the World Rally Championship. During his tenure as Haas team boss, he also became a star of the Netflix series ‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’.


Since stepping back from team management, Steiner continues to be active in Formula 1 as a specialist commentator for German Formula 1 broadcaster RTL, an ambassador for the Miami Grand Prix and continues to feature in Netflix’s hit series 'Drive to Survive'. Steiner also wrote two best-selling books - ‘Surviving to Drive’ and ‘Unfiltered: My Incredible Decade in Formula 1’.


At his appearance at the 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival, Steiner discussed the current state of Formula 1, what it’s like being a team owner and what he enjoys about the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.
