Lowndes' to celebrate General Motors legacy

Craig and Lara Lowndes will celebrate the legacy of General Motors in Australia by driving a Holden HRT427 Monaro and a Chevrolet Corvette respectively in the 2024 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival Gouger Street Party on the evening of Friday 15 March.

The HRT427 Monaro was one of only two versions built and is currently in the possession of the National Motor Museum, which will be showcasing the car alongside other classic Holdens in their display area at the 2024 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

Based on the Holden Monaro 427C that won the Bathurst 24 Hour race at the Mount Panorama Circuit in 2002 and 2003, the HRT427 Monaro road-going version featured a 580 horsepower seven-litre V8 engine. However, the HRT427 Monaro never went into mass production due to high costs with just two road cars made alongside the four racing versions.

Craig Lowndes has a long association with General Motors, winning all three of his Australian Touring Car Championship/Supercars titles with Holden in addition to four his seven Bathurst 1000 wins with the legendary Australian brand.

In addition to driving the HRT427 Monaro in the 2024 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival Gouger Street Party, Lowndes will drive the Arrows A10B Megatron in the Formula 1 category,  the Ferrari FXX in the ‘Ferrari Spettacolo’ demonstration and the iconic Triple Eight Betta Electrical V8 Supercar in the PremiAir Hire Bathurst winners’ category at the 2024 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

The 2024 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival Gouger Street Party will see a high-powered parade of exotic, wild and rare cars and motorbikes run from Victoria Park to Gouger Street for the free community street party starting at 6pm on Friday 15 March, marking the start of the 2024 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival weekend. Held the week prior to the Australian Grand Prix, the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival is a museum in motion, displaying historic, rare and significant racing vehicles on the Victoria Park section of the Adelaide Street Circuit.
