Sideways Sunday – Rally Legends at AMF

Rally aficionados are in for a treat on Sunday at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival, with a collection of historic rally cars taking to the tarmac for a spirited demonstration.

For those still pining for the crazy days of Group B, an original Renault A5 Turbo in period livery will be a highlight. The Renaults were known for being fast and fierce – this particular car raced in the Rally of Italy.

Fresh from competing in the Adelaide Rally, Stewart Reid’s Audi S1 Quattro will be another crowd favourite. It’s an accurate replica of the iconic 1984 car, with 600hp and all-wheel-drive. It will be joined by two replica A2 Quattros, a feast for five-pot fans.

Toyotas are well represented too, with a multiple Australian Rally Championship-winning Celica GT4 driven by multiple Australian camp Neal Bates. A genuine factory WRC GT4 from 1997 was raced by Freddy Loix, winning at Spa and Condroz. Another factory car from Toyota is the WRC Corolla that was the spare car for Carlos Sainz.

Irish rally drive Frank Kelly will follow up his Adelaide Rally campaign with his ‘Baby Blue’ 1975 Ford Escort, which has gathered a cult following thanks to YouTube videos like ‘Fast, Sideways and Mental’, and F1 star Daniel Ricciardo’s dad Joe will show that motorsport is definitely in the blood in his 1974 Porsche 911 RS.

This will be the only chance to see these cars perform in a stadium environment, don’t miss out.
